Home page of the Columbus Highland Dancers!

Highland dancing is centuries old, it began among the Scottish clans and was extended to military recruitment and celebration after battle.  Today, it is mainly used in competition, entertainment and for historical cultural reasons.

Dancers begin with the basic skills, developing more complex steps over time.  More advanced dancers are able to compete as individuals at regional Highland Games.

The Columbus Highland Dancers (CHD) was organized in 1982.  The group is dedicated to preserving the dance traditions of Scotland.  Scottish dance is a very athletic form of folk dance, requiring a strong commitment to work at becoming physically fit.  Most often dancers begin during elementary school years.  Students must be dedicated and come to class every week.

Our local group is quite active in cultural demonstrations throughout the central Ohio area, as well as public and private performances.
